Blog 64…. Because the lady loves… Milk Tray !!!

Ahhh the great words of an old song. Written with love in mind, asking a question if the love was forever and planning little trips to the Isle of Wight, a little drive on a Sunday. So simple but so gorgeous.

But if it’s love do we need to question it’s longevity?

Questions we could ask ourselves ?

Will I still be alive when I’m 64? (negative Nancy)
Will you still be alive when I’m 64 (Slightly more positive about self Nancy)

Who is Nancy? I actually wanted to call Olivia (my 23 year old daughter) Nancy, but was told “Nooooo” Simon wanted to call her Leonora ?????? !!!!! My dad wanted to call her Wizzadora (very funny) but we called her

….. Charlotte !!!! well for about 5 hours until we phoned the then 4 year old James who said “her name is Olivia” and so it was.

So Olivia is named after one of the characters in “Basil the Great Mouse Detective.

This is Basil saving Olivia – it is rather cute.

Basil the Great Mouse Detective

She is such a great girl that I’m sure she would have rocked any name we gave her (or James gave her as he was obviously in charge of names … and other aspects of our lives)

But going back to that old song – it’s a love song

“When I’m Sixty Four”

When I get older losing my hair
Many years from now
Will you still be sending me a valentine
Birthday greetings, bottle of wine?
If I’d been out till quarter to three
Would you lock the door?
Will you still need me, will you still feed me
When I’m sixty-four?

You’ll be older too
And if you say the word
I could stay with you

I could be handy, mending a fuse
When your lights have gone
You can knit a sweater by the fireside
Sunday mornings go for a ride
Doing the garden, digging the weeds
Who could ask for more?
Will you still need me, will you still feed me
When I’m sixty-four?

Every summer we can rent a cottage in the Isle of Wight
If it’s not too dear
We shall scrimp and save
Grandchildren on your knee
Vera, Chuck & Dave

Send me a postcard, drop me a line
Stating point of view
Indicate precisely what you mean to say
Yours sincerely, wasting away
Give me your answer, fill in a form
Mine for evermore
Will you still need me, will you still feed me
When I’m sixty-four?

What a great song !!!

I am looking at these words and realising that If I ever have any grandchildren we can call them Vera, Chuck and Dave !!! All the answers to our questions are there if only we listen to the words of others.

So these Valentines and cards etc.??? I don’t get valentines cards !!! Boooooooooooooooooooooooooo

or Flowers

or random gifts (unless bought by self)

and it used to really get up my nose and make me annoyed – so every year I used to go through what seemed to be like the eternal, returning, never changing, Deja vu

When this happens we really need to get a grip of it asap other wise you build up to a ruination of every birthday, Christmas and Valentine etc. When your partner “doesn’t do cards” well what do you do?????

Well let me tell you it took me years to find the right way to deal with it but the ranting and sulking certainly didn’t work.

“Will you still love me when I’m 64” ?

I stopped expecting a card or flowers, gifts etc. and I gave up trying to explain why I wanted them.

Instead I started buying myself a gift and told Simon what I wanted from John Lewis and guess what

I got it (especially the self bought purchases)

Now, the card took a bit longer but I can happily say that providing I give plenty of reminders that it’s my birthday, I do get a card.

I bought Simon a mug with LOVE written on it and it got shoved in the mug cupboard ….. but over time I started getting a cup of tea – YES in the Love Mug !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well Blow me up with a bicycle pump !!! (quote from Little and Littler)

Now said mug will be washed (if already used) and my morning tea will be delivered in it !!!!

So this is to me a daily gesture of love – No words – just the gift of tea made with love – delivered with love.

So that is worth No card in my book.

Now I try and look at all the other things he does that don’t appear like the Milk Tray Man delivering the Milk Tray – Crikey I loved that advert !!!

“All because the lady loves Milk Tray”

Milk Tray Pic

Leaving the Calling card !!! I never gave it a thought of how invasive that would have felt !!! Waking up to chocolate though probably would over ride any fears of burglary

I like Milk Tray – It’s nearly my 25th Wedding anniversary. … You already know what I am thinking !!!!

I will make a purchase asap – and put my own calling card on the box because one thing is for sure,

I will still love me when I’m 64. and I will love Milk Tray forever.

Love you my friends – Please love yourselves too.

If you haven’t found your someone to bring you tea in the “Love Mug” then buy one immediately and start making your own drinks in it.

If you have a good imagination here he is …… (he’s probably 110 by now) but in his prime he was a looker !!!
